Why do so many TV shows film everything in such darkness? If I don't turn out all the lights in the room, in some scenes I can't tell what's going on. I've seen this irritating phenomenon on so many shows. My current example is the first episode of season 2 of @OutcastCinemax.
No amount of fiddling with the TV settings made the night scenes in the first episode of season 2 of @OutcastCinemax watchable, and I have a 2 month old, fairly high end 55" 4K TV. I've found the same for other shows. @LukeCage, for instance.

Typically start by turning off (or all the way down) any adjustment with "sharpness" or "enhancement" or which futzes with the frame rate. Then look for color presets that say something like "cinema" in them. Sadly TVs are over-featured this way now.

If you can find a video geek nearby who has a disk with test images then you can check things like gamma. (Oh, do play with gamma. That alone could explain what you're seeing.)
