Why do so many TV shows film everything in such darkness? If I don't turn out all the lights in the room, in some scenes I can't tell what's going on. I've seen this irritating phenomenon on so many shows. My current example is the first episode of season 2 of @OutcastCinemax.

I actually stopped watched Luke cage a few episodes in bc I couldn’t see. I hate this phenomenon.

I'm five episodes into season two of "Luke Cage" and I seriously thinking of following your leaf.

Dr. I agree and have combated this with a few settings and it has been a tremendous help and thankfully doesn't hurt the normal stuff, either. In brightness and contrast. Kick 'em up and if you have the black gradient bars make them more distinct to each other.

I understand this phenomenon to be due to a limited budget for special effects thus requiring darkness to substitute for clarity. The Underworld film series was rife with this irritant.

You're seeing the effect of high dynamic range. And Luke Cage is shot in Dolby video, which goes even darker.

It reduces their budget for set design?
