Ack! @OHAOregon is planning on torturing Medicaid patients with chronic pain by mandating an involuntary opioid taper with coverage of acupuncture quackery instead, thanks to 3 acupuncturists and a chiropractor on the committee drafting the guidelines.https://respectfulinsolence.com/2018/08/22/scam-nonpharmacologic-treatments-for-pain/ …

Dr. Gorski, I'm all for evidence-based medicine, and I urge you to read this whitepaper on nonpharmacologic pain. As far as theatrical placebos, I would say that LESI, meniscectomy, discectomy may be considered the same based on recent findings. http://dpbh.nv.gov/uploadedFiles/dpbhnvgov/content/Resources/opioids/Evidence_Based_Nonpharmacologic_Strategies_for_Comprehensive_Pain_Care_White_Paper.pdf …

Dr. Gorski, I would urge you to reconsider the efficacy of opioids. Why would you promote opioids at all? Are you aware in the state of IL alone, we are soon going to DOUBLE the deaths from opioids in our state? Opioids don't "treat" chronic pain, they cause hyperalgesia.

As far as delusions of grandeur, I would argue that many surgeons like this one also have delusions of grandeur. You think medical doctors don't have a "God Complex"? Integrative medicine includes all practitioners and can help people without killing them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqeC3BPYTmE …

It is great to see the rise of Integrative (Lifestyle, etc.) Medicine practitioners. Overdiagnosed, over medicated, patients on multiple meds is not the answer. We will not medicate ourselves to health. Need to rethink what's making people sick and what's keeping them that way.

Dr. Gorski, look at all the expensive LESI done. In view of these findings, what do you think about our brethren in anesthesia doing this? https://www.aafp.org/afp/2016/0215/p315a.html …

Holy crap, what a load of bollocks on acupuncture that paper lays down!

So where does that leave things? Theatrical placebo arguably better than death. Chiropractic successes arguably better than death. Maybe your words "quackery" and "pseudoscience" don't apply. Maybe bury the hatchet and start working to solutions like

The nocebo effect is strong with this one. That hurts my feelings.
