10 years ago, I decided to apply to medical school so that I could one day prescribe the medications that maximize insurance companies’ profits and click things on my computer to improve my billing staff’s odds when they fight to get me paid for the work I did.https://twitter.com/OptumRx/status/1025005545646907397 …

Don't you love it when insurance companies tell you that their attempts to maximize profits are really just their way of helping patients?

Duke has 1,500 billing clerks for 750 hospital beds & I’m sure the insurance companies employee an equivalent number of claims reviewers. Vertically integrated health systems that eliminate this admin waste are the future. Note: vertically integrated does not imply single payer

I've been with my department ten years, and half (or more) of pretty much every faculty meeting I attend is devoted to surgeons bitching about our physician group's billing department and how it misses charges and isn't getting us the reimbursement to which we are entitled.
