TOTALLY agree. I'd like to talk with a friend while I make dinner, but not also have the kids' after school TV hour going on in the background. I'd like to welcome a guest, without having family members have to walk within their view on their way to take a shower.

I cannot STAND and open floor plan. My home is a true craftsman and I appreciate the old built in storage ih the dining room and not having cooking smells floating throughout the home.

I hate the effect this open plan style has on tempreature and noise. Especially noise. The wonder a good solid door has on blocking noise!

I enjoy the open floor plan...motivates me to keep kitchen straight in case of guests. Would definitely ditch two story rooms and dining room, though. Currently using dining room as home office...otherwise was only used once a year
