This is an antivax myth that I truly despise.https://twitter.com/aboutpediatrics/status/1022242203769421825 …

Have you heard the myth that #polio only went away because they changed the way it was diagnosed? Don't believe it. #VaccinesWork http://bit.ly/2LEBHro  pic.twitter.com/KBrfXkPwHu

Same. That, and the whole 'Shaken Maybe Syndrome', first coined by Australia's expat American, Meryl Dorey. Particularly vile.

My grandfather DIED of polio in 1985. An amazing man, but I was 1 when he passed so I never got to know him. My friends don’t actually know what polio is, it’s never been a part of their reality...BECAUSE VACCINATIONS ARE GODDAMN AMAZING. This makes me angry & breaks my ♥️.

You should see this antivaxxer troll saying PCR is what should be done to differentiate polio from other neurological diseases causing paralysis. They think we PCR anyone with paralysis to diagnose them. https://twitter.com/Hish__/status/1022084899266879488?s=19 … I assure you that thread is long but funny.

Russian Twitter bots are telling me PCR is needed for neurological localization. This is lovely. https://twitter.com/CharlesLazelle/status/1022083718247112704?s=19 …

After polio is extinct, we won't need to beg people to vaccinate their children against it. Most of the vaccine-preventable diseases can be driven into extinction through vaccination. http://nomeasles.com pic.twitter.com/5H6DSqp82V

Funny that. I was around at the time; before the polio vaccine there were banks of iron lungs in the wards and after they changed the diagnostic criteria the iron lungs disappeared. The same happened for all those kids in walking irons.pic.twitter.com/UIyorew1fd
