Bwahahaha! We get the same sorts of pitches at @ScienceBasedMed. We even get alternative medicine pitches! 😂😂😂https://twitter.com/garyschwitzer/status/1009542031255973893 …

PR people: know your addressees. I just got a pitch that used “game changer” and “cure” in the subject line. Do you know what we do on @HealthNewsRevu?

Indeed, I never could figure out why some of the people who pitch ideas for guest posts at @ScienceBasedMed (most of whom are not quacks) do so, given that it is incredibly obvious to me by their idea pitches or guest post submissions that they do not "grok" what we are about. 1/

By far the most common problem with guest posts submitted to @ScienceBasedMed medicine is that the contributor thinks that we are a general interest medical blog. So they'll submit simple, short posts with an accurate, but very superficial, treatment of a medical condition. 2/

Either that, or they'll think that @ScienceBasedMed is interested in listicles or infographics. We aren't, with rare exceptions. They also think we want clickbait content. While we do like to attract as much traffic as we can, still we do try not to be click-baity on purpose. 3/

Sometimes, the flood gets to be so annoying that I am...less than civl...in my responses, not so much for first time attempted contributors (who knows?—they might figure it out on a second submission) but for repeated offenders. 4/

Yes, we do like to feature guest posts, and we could really use a couple of new regular bloggers, first to take over @MarkCrislip's old spot (which we've been unable to fill for several months), and second to try to find talent to make our blog better. 5/

The problem is that the good, established bloggers usually already have their own gigs and at best might do a guest post or two for us, and new up-and-comers are very hard to find, particularly ones who "grok" what we are about and can articulate it in an engaging way. 6/

Of course, we're all volunteer and don't pay, either. In this, our big pharma overlord paymasters have let us down greatly. 7/

The areas in medicine where we at @ScienceBasedMed most feel a lack of expertise are in women's health and mental health, but obviously there are lots of other areas where our regulars are not experts. That includes some basic science topics related to cancer. 8/

In any case, we're still always on the lookout for fresh blood to bolster our weaknesses and make @ScienceBasedMed better. 9/9https://sciencebasedmedicine.org/about-science-based-medicine/submission-guidelines/ …
