Because from conception you're both alive(a living growing organism), & human(biologically of our species), with your own unique DNA, your developmental stage you're in doesn't change that. You don't magically become human by passing through a birth canal.

There is a lot of space between egg and sperm (clearly not a life) and birth (clearly a life). I think most people put it somewhere before birth.
