Forgotten in the reporting on this moving viral photo is that the dying girl was being treated in a quack cancer clinic in Monterrey, where two doctors use a thrown-together combination of chemo and immunotherapy and refuse to publish their results.https://patch.com/arkansas/across-ar/4-year-old-girl-dies-hours-after-heartbreaking-photo-brother …

I know this family personally. I grew up with the dad. I don't agree with their choices. But they were desperate. As are all parents dealing with this diagnosis. I hate that they were taken advantage of.

They spent >$200,000 on an unproven treatment. The docs in Monterrey took advantage of them the same way Stanislaw Burzynski has taken advantage of so many families of children with DIPG. These docs are even worse, because they don't even claim to try to publish their results.

I've written more blog posts than I can remember about
#Burzynski patients that have made me cry. This story does too. The story is the same; only the quackery is different. For example...https://respectfulinsolence.com/2017/05/04/its-full-steam-ahead-for-cancer-quack-stanislaw-burzynski/ …1 reply 0 retweets 9 likes -

I appreciate the good work that you are doing exposing these crooks. It was so strange to see a family I know pursuing such abnormal therapy. How do we protect these patients? These "clinics" are only becoming more popular. As a future PA, it is so concerning.

I'm debating writing a post about the clinic to which these parents went. I hadn't been aware of it before. I found it very odd that the articles discussing this girl and other children with cancer who were treated there rarely mention the name of the clinic or doctors. Very odd.

I had seen posts where they were berating the medical community for not approving these treatments. Or being disgusted that "big Pharma" didn't want these treatments approved. I grieve for their family. I grieve for their finances.

This clinic is very Burzynski-like from what I've discovered thus far, except that the two docs don't even make a pretense of doing clinical trials. Worse, they use the "we're too busy taking care of patients" excuse when asked why they haven't published their results.

Worse still, their treatment is even more invasive and potentially toxic than Burzynski's. It involves intra-arterial infusions of chemotherapy IN THE BRAIN.
