Are you really that stupid or ignorant? Context matters. Comparing black people to apes has a long history among racists and has been used as a racist slur for a long time.
So let me explore this a bit. Let's say a fellow white student referred to an African-American as an "ape" or compared him disparagingly to an ape? You're saying you wouldn't consider that racist?

I would say it’s more of making fun of and stereotyping but being racist has to do with hate and secluding then and thinking your better then them. And it also depends on how they used it, like a snide/rude behavior yes I would consider that racism.

Actually, there is pretty darned close to no context in which a white person describing an African-American person as an "ape" is not racist. If such a context exists, I am unaware of it. Certainly what you describe is not such a context.

Also like saying it to one person but not others of the same race also has to be taken into context because just because you could say a remark to someone just because you don’t like them personally.
