Have Verizon Samsung s8+ on the new update. Allows you finally to download the daydream app but in the app it says its still not compatible

Is the Daydream headset necessary in order to is this? Or will Daydream support the Gear VR headset and controller?

As of right now the Gear VR headset and controller don't support daydream (which is a load of bs but I like Oculus better anyways lol)
