Let’s talk about what’s happening in Australia, which is suffering its worst bushfire season in recorded history.
This almost unimaginable catastrophe has killed half a billion animals and released over 250 million tonnes of CO2 so far.

Australia has had many bad bushfire seasons. The 1851 season saw 5,000,000 hectares burned. In 1951/1952 it was 4,000,000 hectares. In 1984/1985 it was 3,500,000 hectares. This time it’s 5,900,000 hectares SO FAR. A size comparison with some other fires:pic.twitter.com/3nQmUxNmxc
According to Australia’s environment minister, up to 30% of koalas on the New South Wales mid-north coast may have been killed by the fires. This area is home to a large number of Australia’s koalas - population estimate was 15,000-28,000.pic.twitter.com/oagLomgnxe
