This from the @nytimes account of the Calif school shooting took my breath away. Our teachers now have gunshot wound kits in their classrooms.pic.twitter.com/2gawbQp6Y7

GSW kits aren’t issued, we teachers buy them out of pocket. $75-$100/kit. In my district, each hallway gets one bleeding control kit (tourniquets) per teaching team of 5 teachers. We were advised to keep tampons/Maxipads for GSW, too. #surrealnightmare #teacherproblems

Seconding the "tampons/maxipads for GSW." That's been my experience as a classroom teacher, too.

Pretty sure that’s how tampons were originally invented: a wartime innovation of a prewrapped bandage compressed into a wound cavity. #notahistorian #factcheckplease

You’re welcome. I never imagined when I got my degree and certification that I’d be planning for battlefield/trauma ward emergencies.

I feel sick knowing gun shot wound kits need to be a thing for a school. And sick that our politicians have allowed such to be needed and commonplace.

This is outrageous!! No amount of words is enough to describe my anger, unfairness, absurdity of this whole situation. Guns being used in schools, festivals, music concerts, etc... how did we fail so bad as a society

Disgusting that such measures are needed. More so that the district doesn't provide.

Funding is a big issue. The area where I teach exploded with work opportunities, and we haven’t been able to keep up. Our class sizes are maxed out and teachers earn nearly $10k/year less than teachers in nearby states. The state DOE passed on providing extra last year.
