This release of Arwen supports layer2 atomic swap trades from Bitcoin (and BCH and LTC) into Ethereum. 
We only rely on the traded coin’s native blockchain for security - there are no trusted oracles, federations, pegs or trusted third parties.

But, you may ask, how can we do that? 
After all, Bitcoin and Ethereum are famously incompatible. They support totally different types of smart contracts! So how can we trustless exchange value across these blockchains?
Well... 3/
Our technical insight at @arwensecure is to use blockchain smart contracts that are simple, using “instructions” that are supported by most blockchains. 
And then we push complexity into the cryptography and protocol that happens at “layer2”, aka “off-blockchain”. 4/
In other words, if you start out by supporting Bitcoin (and it’s forks) in your protocol, you can later move towards supporting Ethereum in your protocol

Along the way, we had to address some the challenges involved in writing Ethereum smart contracts in Solidity

And, the notion that “Ethereum does not provide safety under reorgs” was not satisfactory to my team. We wanted more security. There is a trend toward designing Ethereum smart contracts with keys that give the creator the capability to change the smart contract. 
At @arwensecure, we explicitly choose NOT to do this. 
We have no such keys, nor do we have any such capability. 8/
