This is ignorant at best, dangerous at worst. I'm not saying there is a one size fits all way of training athletes, but to take this stance?! 🙄😡 Just... wow. So inconsistent with the science AND the application.

  2. Good luck to every young soccer player whose development will be negatively affected by a coach misapplying this incredibly, transparently stupid tweet.

🤔💭👨‍🔬: Go to a park on a nice day and observe. How many people do you see jogging, laborious and slow? Methodical plodding. How many of these people are "in shape"? Compare to... How many people are doing sprints? Zero? My money is on 0. Bang for buck?.. It's the latter.

You can do a million lunges and not be strong. You can run a million miles and not be fast. You can take a million free throws and be a terrible shot. You can work 12 hours a day and not be productive. ... Doing things with focus and intent > Doing things in bulk

You can be a great weightlifter and a terrible athlete. And vice versa. Never forget that. Know your WHY.

Certain sports/positions(🏈O-line) reward max strength with little regard for strength:BW ratio Other sports (🧗) have a primary KPI that IS strength:BW ratio... 🏈o-line⬆️BW usually=good 🧗⬆️BW usually=bad These "sport specific" things must be factored into training...

100,000-250,000 years: Children lift, crawl, run, and climb as soon as they can out of necessity. Early 1900's: Children less than 10 work 14 hour days in factories. 2000's: "Actually it's child abuse to make a kid move until at least 18. The bones can't handle it." 🤔🤷‍♂️😂🤣

The goal isn't to train. The goal is to get the training effect. If I could get the adaptation WITHOUT training, you better believe I would... ... You can train and train and train and NEVER get an effect...which is both really common, and really bad. Chase. The. Adaptation.

Saying "it depends" without saying what it depends on is a cop out. But any answer other than "it depends" is usually an oversimplification. Training is multifactorial. It's ok to treat it as such.

The "burpees are great for military" crowd might be missing a minor little detail... If you're being shot at... jumping, falling, and jumping in the same spot isn't very evasive... Nor does it allow one to go on the offensive... It's human whack-a-mole. And that's just stupid.

What is the biggest lie about training that the average person believes to be true? I'll start... You can judge a session by how sweaty and tired you get, and by how sore you are the next day.

Macro-nutrient choices (beyond energy) matter! Short-term ketogenic diet impairs markers of bone health in athletes (in just 3.5 weeks). great authors: + others: OPEN:

This helps you to visualize geologic time. Earth came into being at the shoulder, single cell organisms started at the forearm, humans only rocked up at the tip of the finger nail. Source:

"sport specific training" I believe that when you say "I train all athletes the same...push, pull, squat, and sprint" the layperson hears "*ALL training is the same*" I'd rather just label the variances "sport specific" and re-brand the term. Am I wrong? Tell me why.

You can eat as "healthy" as you want... if that strategy doesn't place you in a caloric deficit (consciously or not), you won't lose weight.

The best thing a youth athletic development coach/trainer can do is to build a foundation using fun... Everything should be disguised as fun. And the word "conditioning" should never come up.
