@gogreen18 I've got one question for people who say that they use guns to "protect their family"
why are they called "Assault rifles"?
-
-
-
They're not. "Assault rifles" are select fire (full auto), banned since 1986 (FOPA)...
@MAMA_UMBRIDGE@gogreen18 -
…Today's "military STYLE" rifles (AR-15 etc.) are semi-auto only and called "sporting rifles" as a class…
@MAMA_UMBRIDGE@gogreen18 -
…w/ various subclasses that utilize specialized nomenclature ("competition," "precision," Olympic," "target" etc)…
@MAMA_UMBRIDGE@gogreen18 -
Now, if you're thinking of "assault WEAPON," that's a political term invented to stigmatize modern civilian arms…
@MAMA_UMBRIDGE@gogreen18 -
…and is not recognized by any etymological history of firearms development. http://www.assaultweapon.info
@MAMA_UMBRIDGE@gogreen18 -
Personally, I refer to firearms by their make and model and the duties I've selected for them, so terms = moot. …
@MAMA_UMBRIDGE@gogreen18 -
I.e. my "home defense rifle" = Kel-Tec SU-16, "sporting rifle" = Arsenal SGL-21, "target rifle" = Ruger 10/22 etc.
