Article also seems to forget the period of Chinese history involving the Three Kingdoms through the warlord states, which spanned the same rough time period as the fall of Rome, with similar practical effect.

By that measure, "Confucianism" died in 1927. All current Chinese institutions are explicitly Communist, and any reassertion at a later date will also be reinvention.
