Looking at the map “everyone” seems a big stretch to describe this. In fact it appears that there is a very strong cultural/religious bias in results. Perhaps due to limited free choice of nature’s natural selectors (women) in these regions?

We've got a Latin American student staying with us whose parents are 1st cousins. I had never realized how much mockery of cousin marriage there is in North American pop culture. He's stoic about, but it's embarrassing to me.

Only in modern liberal urban zones do you have a large variety of mates to chase or choose combined with the freedom to do so.

Prob of grandchildren is lower but, if they materialise, prob they will carry your genes is higher. If offspring fitness magically did not vary with F_I, would make most sense to mate with your MZ twin. Dunno if this has been addressed much re: inbreeding (later-period Trivers?)

Do recall reading a Trivers thing suggesting co-sanguinity is higher in areas with lower pathogen load - fits with parasite avoidance theory of sexual reproduction ?
