Anecdotally, I can see the change in 3 generations around me.. pre-partition ppl lived with other religions, had friends (and enemies) and that made a difference.. now it is monochromatic and official doctrine is harsher even than public attitudes..

I would argue that it’s the one thing that still makes pluralism salvageable from the current mess in India. For many people it’s commonplace to grow up with friends from other religions.
