Wow. This is very well written and should have wider distribution. Well done. I had the same reaction to the original tweet that started this, but you put it so much better.

1/ I don't think any serious person would claim that the causal factors of partition can be merely reduced to colonialism. But the callous manner in which the British divided India did contribute to the ensuing (horrific) violence & present-day tensions: https://theconversation.com/how-a-british-royals-monumental-errors-made-indias-partition-more-painful-81657 …

2/ I also think that this post ignores the historical happenstance that led to partition (goes against the idea of a 'North-Indian Muslim elite' incapable of adjusting in an undivided India) such as the fact that Jinnah never wanted partition & simply used it as a bargaining chippic.twitter.com/RRc3lQebpy

and well-written. "English, the government, much of the legal system, and cricket." Positively Austen-esque, with bonus Oxford comma.

Razib, this is fucking brilliant. I learned so much in so short a time. Your parallels with European history (Westphalia, indeed) and your trenchant indictment of post-colonialism (may I suggest narcissistic introjection, to wax Freudian) blew me away.
