58mm filter box, modeled in Blender. I'm still baffled with idea of being able to think objects out so easily and precisely.

We had a small party for our son's birthday recently, and the two young sisters taking care of the kids happened to have these tattoos, after the South African concept. The odds...

Do you know anyone using Gentoo these days? We have a great selection of snaps that would work well on Gentoo, but currently lack a good maintainer for snapd there.

The toy renderer which projects a 3D scene into a clean SVG can now take simple multi-material non-planar objects. Logic is about ~300 lines of Go.

I thought 3D printers were not as user friendly as paper printers yet, but having to create tools to push a home-made solution through the ink printer head for unclogging it proves me wrong easily.

The boring part of it was tuning the flate package to support partial flushes, which is not just undocumented and "deprecated" (not while ssh uses it, really!), but also seems misunderstood. Online references disagree with the wire data.

The context there was supporting compression in the x/crypto/ssh package. The good news is that I got it working fine. The bad news is it proved irrelevant for our use case.

I had to print a funny drawing for our son's party. But then it was low-res, which means it needs tracing in Inkscape, but that failed. Okay, I'll model it.. except Blender is better at that. Except not at SVG. Now I'm writing obj2svg. Wait... what was the problem again? Ah, me.

Here is the polished little package, documented and with examples:

Okay, it is possible to do that. It's just very fiddly to undo the reader convention assumptions into a simpler interface. An example below. I'll polish this into a small general package (non zlib specific) and publish somewhere.

Seems impossible to use Go's zlib package properly inside a streaming context, unless we know the uncompressed size upfront. Has anyone looked into that yet?

The audience didn't notice until the end, when I went back into the normal user interface to reveal the "easter egg". Would this be the first time Blender has been "demoted" into a presentation tool? :)

The keynote last week was presented entirely inside a live UI (a maximized viewport, not pre-rendered). Blender 2.79, 16 cameras, drivers, curves, etc. Short teaser:
