I've been title-policed in a way to emphasize I don't have the PhD and am not teaching faculty :-(

Being brought up in strict heirarchies brings out the worst in people, IMHO.

Good read, thanks for sharing! I kinda wish they’d put SENIOR ACADEMIC ADVISER all in caps at the end there.pic.twitter.com/wXJY3vCauc

The difference in treatment from some people between when they think I'm "just a librarian" and when they know I have a JD is appalling. Thankfully fairly rare for me, but jeeeeesus. And they almost -never- realize that this bullshit lowers them in my estimation.

(I mostly work with non-law-school faculty. The dynamics seem even weirder in law schools.)

Great read, so true. Reminds me of that time many years ago at a different school when I was referred to by a faculty member as the “library greeted” because I was at the desk.

Meanwhile, faculty and central administrators dream up increasingly grandiose and meaningless titles for themselves and their underlings to justify administrative pay raises during "pay freezes" for the rank and file.
