This is the result of spending time in the field staring at butterflies and "seeing" all sorts of patterns. Some turned out to be very true! Really fun project with and many others that have collected over the years

‘Eat local’ is common advice for a low-carbon diet. But this has little impact on your carbon footprint. Transport accounts for only 6% of food emissions. Focus instead on *what* you eat. Food choices > food miles. Latest article:

Anyone who calls the current generation of grad students “soft millennials” needs to take a moment and think about what it takes for them to be successful in grad school and on the job market now compared to what it took 10, 20, or 30 years ago.

Toxicity of a butterfly population may change up to 10% per y because of high evolutionary potential in this trait, demonstrated by our study highlighting the implications of chemical defense evolution for aposematic and mimetic species.

MPs have voted against New Clause 10 being read a second time, by 344 votes to 254. This new clause would have required the Government to seek to negotiate continuing full membership of the EU’s Erasmus+ education and youth programme.

I’m loving stories of how genomics can be too big to fail .... we spent ~3 years trying to find a life hist. trade-off locus, via male/female crosses and GWAS. At each step, we could make up reasonable candidate gene stories ... all wrong. Slept well only after CRISPR KOs.

We measured microclimates for a year (>500k records), tested heliconius thermal tolerance in the wild across altitudes and reared them in common garden. A huge effort with great help! ☀️🦋🐛🌡

If this exit poll is right, it’s a devastating blow for our climate, for future generations and for our democracy. It’s not just our relationship with the EU that will dominate the next few months, it will be our relationship with Scotland too
