In the current political hour everything feels dire and horrible and pointless. Donating to candidates, signing petitions, making sure to vote… it's all necessary but it's all so abstract.

This also applies to adapter technology. If you want an 8k-capable Thunderbolt 3 to Displayport adapter, you *have* to get it online. They're cheap but nobody is going to sell it to you in a blister pack at checkout.

I learned a weird thing this week: There are no longer any retail stores which stock "high-end" monitors, with the sole exception of the Apple store and their now-comically high-end one. If you want an IPS panel with a reasonable refresh rate, you need to get it sight unseen.

If you're a maintainer of any Python project, it's fine to be happy that we're in a better place now, but it's critical that you not put on rose-tinted glasses about the terrible process that got us here: learn from it, and learn how not to repeat it.

One thing that I think it's important not to lose sight of is that, despite the fact that the Python 3 transition is largely complete for most projects, and we are generally in a better place as a community than we were in 2008, *the transition was still a huge disaster*.

Haters gonna make some pretty good points which are worth at least considering, is what I’m saying.

The “hater” phenomenon is real, but you have to be really careful when you classify people this way; it’s Jim McCarthy’s “bozo bit”. Once everyone who disagrees with you is a “hater”, you’ll never learn anything useful about your impact on the world ever again.

Whenever someone pathologizes “haters” and tries to diagnose the psychological problems which drive their behavior, ask yourself whether you’ve seen the pathologizer in question have a substantive interaction with someone critical of their actions and made changes as a result.
