    The new virus variant - Omicron - has a large number of mutations, some of which are concerning. This is why we need to speed up our efforts to deliver on ASAP and protect the most vulnerable everywhere.

    The Technical Advisory Group on SARS-CoV-2 Virus Evolution met today to review what is known about the variant B.1.1.529. They advised WHO that it should be designated a Variant of Concern. WHO has named it Omicron, in line with naming protocols

    ICYMI, our COVID-19 Vaccine Monitor found that public support for the U.S. playing a leading or major role in distributing COVID-19 vaccines globally increases after hearing that the U.S. has enough supply at home and that global coverage is needed to curb the pandemic.

    Important AU deal for 110 million Moderna doses (15 M this year) brokered in part by the US, which agreed to swap its "spot in line" to prioritize these doses for African countries. This is exactly the kind of thing called for by WHO and others.

    This is a big deal. African countries have been organized & determined throughout this crisis, mobilizing their resources to be a regional leader in the fight against . et al have been telling us what's required and demonstrated what's possible, if only we try.

    On with we discussed the latest developments in the efforts to bring COVID-19 vaccines to Africa, including the distribution starting tomorrow of the 400m doses of J&J Vaccines acquired by the via mechanism. This begins to give us hope.
