I know this confuses some people -> Via : With mobile-first indexing, Google still crawls the desktop version from time to time, but NOT to pick up content. It does this to just confirm there is a connection between the desktop url & the mobile url: youtube.com/watch?v=xgmh67

More from John: And it's the opposite for sites still on desktop-first indexing. Google will crawl the mobile version from time to time just to make sure there is a connection between the mobile url and the desktop url:
youtube.com/watch?v=xgmh67

LOL, thank you! Have to include pulp fiction, when possible. And "it's always sunny" fit well there too. :)

I think the CWV signal on desktop is what makes things a bit awry. Google doesn't crawl to get that info, that comes from Crux. But having a signal distinguished for desktop doesn't help with confusion
