  5. I visited the historic Edmund Pettus Bridge on the 50th anniversary of to pay tribute to the courageous leaders who crossed the bridge in Selma that day in pursuit of the right to vote. Today and every day, we must protect the rights that so many sacrificed for.

  6. Today is the 54th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, when nonviolent civil rights activists- including my friend - marched from Selma to Montgomery before being attacked, bloodied, and arrested. Their courage and sacrifice paved the way for the Voting Rights Act.
