    In the end, we had lots of attendees & sponsors, & it worked out. From the feedback we've gotten it was a huge success, but like many things in life, there were a few points it seemed it could have gone the other way. Huge ♥️ to for being true believers! 😁

    Not wanting them to go bankrupt over our gamble, I put in more effort. We ended up selling out of sponsorship slots, but that was never a certainty (shout out to for sponsoring a mere 4 days before the conf).

    Fun behind the scenes: Early on, we struggled to get sponsors. I'm an "always have a plan-B" person & asked if we had a pull-the-plug point. Both said no & that they were all-in. Also both kinda angry at my lack of faith 🤣

    to the organizers of . Running an event is hard & pulling the plug is 💔. Running community conferences is tough. You risk personal finances, mental & physical health & the only real pay out is warm fuzzies & bragging rights.

    I was at for so long that whenever I'm working on something that can generate some sort of metrics, I want to throw it in DD & run anomaly detection & correlations on it. If only custom metrics were cheaper.

    Encouraging companies (or mandating) to provide training for the jobs they replace with machines is a better step. Even better would be for the US to revamp its education system, but that's another rant.

    But my point is, it's ok to automate away jobs, but we have to have training in place to keep the people occupied in meaningful work. Preventing companies from using automation is never going to work...

    Also when you imagine the distant future where we have star ships & peaceful interplanetary federations, etc. etc. Have you ever seen a grocery check out clerk in Star Trek? No! Stuff just materializes....
