Is there a standard way to translate 指鹿为马 into English? I've no idea how to make this phrase, which sounds natural in Chinese (at least to me) because it's an idiom, sound equally idiomatic in English. Anyone?

The syntax would have to be adjusted, but I've always thought of this idiom as equivalent to the Emperor's New Clothes. Political power used to force the denial of one's own senses.
