In an hour or so I'll be meeting online with a representative of @PaperRepublic briefly, with @eriasop also present. I have asked them to come to the table with concrete actions and plans for what they're going to do moving forward.

She didn't know the conversations happening on Twitter, and while she was understanding, I had to waste 30 minutes explaining the whole situation to her. She kept emphasizing that you folks are volunteers and work across different time zones and things take time.

There was not even any details about what conversations you are having or what kind of statement (if any) you will be given. I was asked for free labor and input on how Paper Republic could do better. This is really unacceptable.

I need you to start taking this seriously, and I will not be engaging in any more private conversations until there is a public condemnation of the racism that I faced and poor industry practices affecting BIPOC folks. I think you owe me and folks some explanations and apologies.

If you are not able to resolve this and take some actual steps, you should really rethink your claims about supporting translated Chinese literature, because you're failing Chinese heritage translators.

I'm going to ask folks to reach out to

@PaperRepublic

at one more time and ask them to condemn racism and toxic practices that harm marginalized translators. If the situation is not resolved, I'll not be supporting any of their projects in the future again.

If you're affiliated with Paper Republic in anyway, especially if you're a white sinologist/translator, and you follow me or we are mutuals, I hope you're reaching out to them. I'm going to repeat this again. Paper Republic's silence is harming Chinese heritage translators.

Hey @PaperRepublic if you are still not convinced that to be neutral is problematic and of the harm being done by white folks, I am already getting attacked by racists accusing me of racism and assuming Chinese translators are not native English speakers.

Here is another one. Look at this point I am just blocking any racist white person. Also if you are a white translator who I am mutual with maybe come check in with me or else I may be doing a massive unfollow to avoid more harassment.
