    : Today is Candlemas, a day in the Christian church where religious leaders bless the candle supply for that year. For many Christians, these candles serve as a reminder and symbol of Jesus Christ, whom they call The Light of the World.

    Why is ‘Nothing about us without us’ so important in this work? ➡️ We are all different and we cannot speak for other people’s lived experiences. ➡️ People need space and support to share their issues. ➡️ Participation is important - contributing to the change you want.

    Question: Are there spaces where people who hold formal power want to meet us halfway? ➡️ Broadly, we seem to value authority over service. People then want to enforce that authority instead of acting in service. ➡️ In this space, we can choose to value service over authority.

    Suggestion: A code of conduct needs to be an important part of the beginning of each engagement - it must be signed by each person attending. This is a mandate to take ethical issues and practices seriously.

    Preventing issues related to fraud, etc: ✅ Request original receipts ✅ Ensure accurate, timely reporting ✅ Take note of losses of, or tampering with, important documents
