This is the process of how they select @sigchi VP-at-large positions #chi2019pic.twitter.com/S2sWdzauGK
Next up is @JRicoWilliamson to talk about publications and the future of templates etc. She’s involved a panel after this too. #chi2019 downloads of our content is up to 1.9M downloads which s great. And more and more are open access.pic.twitter.com/ymDjGZUY6W
Interestingly, people are not using the ACM-author-ized route very much so far though for open access. #chi2019
Now on to templates. @sigchi and ACM really trying to move towards publishing in markup not pdf. So we can expose it more formats. #chi2019. We didn’t manage it for this year. But our specialised conferences are moving towards this new approachpic.twitter.com/7Ibh7AjGdK
This takes a bit of extra work, but what’s great is that the papers from #chi2019 are available in html format too (apart from a few glitches). This is screen reader accessible etc.pic.twitter.com/byuXHkEZ6r
Here’s an example of a responsive html format from this year. It was manual for #chi2019 but hopefully part of process from next year hopefully.pic.twitter.com/jGygnsI5iR
Next is @adruin on Inclusion in @sigchi - it’s a new adjunct chair for this role. #chi2019 she is highlighting some of her personal situation that means that this role is really important to her. She wants people to feel comfortable to talk about it #chi2019pic.twitter.com/5ITRciErGv
What are they doing? First an open call for volunteers to help. They have 58 volunteers now in 7 including teams. #chi2019 all these are emergent from the community, and they all met yesterday to start things off from this week.pic.twitter.com/iV5xfKujXA
@adruin wants more input from more people. To give info to the inclusion teams. All can be included. Not an exclusive set of exclusive teams. #chi2019 some initial things they are doing (see photo)pic.twitter.com/mx1ZWi5GOB
Next up is local chapters. Eunice Sari (@eunicesari ?) to talk about how we can reduce isolation and increase community in different regions. The ACM and @sigchi are really up for supporting these new groups with resources. #chi2019 everyone is welcome to set up local chapters!pic.twitter.com/EPiLG9VU4A
Here’s a map of the 56 chapters around the world #chi2019 including new chapters in Africa and Asia. She quickly apologises that some were covered up in the opening ceremony slides by mistake! Because it’s great there are so many.pic.twitter.com/nf58gD7jO1

Next up is @PhilPalanque and @reganmandryk who are running to the CHI conference steering committee. #chi2019 they overlook the conference series (all our conferences have a steering committee) overseen by VP of conferences @aquigleypic.twitter.com/kfDVGTl8Vy
It’s made up mostly of past and future conference chairs, so share knowledge of running the event. #chi2019pic.twitter.com/6pidwpVeqe
We’re moving on to #CHI2020 in Hawaii, which is all set for an excellent scientific conference plus an exciting venue. #chi2021 will be in Asia. It will be in yokohama in Japan. The website is up!pic.twitter.com/ZIeZaTFcOY
#chi2022 will be back in North America. And they are establishing a venue now. #chi2023 will be in Europe and they are opening up bidding for locations. Talk to @reganmandryk if you think you want to host it in your country. It’s a complex process! #chi2019pic.twitter.com/bbQ00mSTrK
@reganmandryk highlights that lots has changed over the last couple of years, but we are trying to evolve to a better place. #chi2019 - in the photo is some of their forward thinking concernspic.twitter.com/YiT8hx2PiF
They are als setting up working groups for things like growth, publications, review processes (in terms of growth) etc #chi2019pic.twitter.com/LeMvKzBgRj
Some questions so far. 1) visa problems. A) @sigchi has a few clear action points (see image). 2) cost of registration is high
? A) workshops in big events are covered in costs :( even changing the room layout overnight, etc. #chi2019 we always try to break even, not profit.pic.twitter.com/zacLNsdTRE
@reganmandryk is adding that the streaming policy exists. We have approval to stream, but there is quality rules, like closed captions, for what we publish on YouTube. So it’s got to be carful not fast. #chi2019
6) can we have more people with disability representing on the committee (not just in accessibility roles)? A) The VP-at-large positions might be a great way to bring that in at the top! #chi2019
8) can we hire a company to uspport accessibility of papers and website etc. A) turns out there kind of is, but no one knows about it. So we have to improve communication about it! #chi2019
9) can we have more people of colour in positions? A) yes VP-at-large! 10) can we expand the ally teams to other conferences? A) yes please! We are talking to the other confs. It’s a great grass-roots action! #chi2019
