I.e. a 99%’ile response time that is roughly the same as 99.99%’ile service time on a system running at a load that is 20% of the demonstrated saturating load is something I see pretty much every day.

Response time deviates from service time well before a system is fully loaded. It starts deviating when the system stops being idle. Literally. A two orders of magnitude difference between them at 20% utilization is common to see.

Hi Gil, question on latency P99. After fixing CO, i get real response & service time. To find bottleneck in service, i have P99 for each stage in service time. Is comparing each stage's P99 right way to remove bottlenecks ? or is there a problem here as well ?

Worth noting that the Zulu 8 binary distribution of OpenJDK, has included JFR for a year+ now. In fact, much of the backporting was done by the Zulu team and upstreamed to the incubator project. Free, up to date, quality production bits of Zulu 8 w/JFR:

For the evaluation we consider the following alternative latency summary technologies found in the wild: - HDR Histograms / - t-digest / - DDSketch = Log Histograms We also include histograms (not really fair comparison) 3/x

I have just released a new version of HdrHistogramJS! It brings a brand new low memory footprint histogram implementation which is a TypeScript port of the brand new java "PackedHistogram" from !

Here's me, aaahm-ing and uuumm-ing my way through service mesh network latency benchmarking. Check it out if you want to learn about statistical robustness when running tests on cloud provider infrastructure, and of course about . (CC: )

Yeh, we always have those glue skills that seem like they’d beat developer skills. In 1996 learning HTML and building web pages was where it was at. Those jobs got replaced by robots. Then in the Y2Ks it was XML. Robots again. Coding skills seem to last even as languages change.

*Consistent* response times in a low milliseconds range over *continuously* growing data for a pure Java software stack. Sharing the stage with again to break down the solution into pieces. HQ, Jan 23rd. Come and challenge:
