Solar Power. From space! In my latest article with Leet Wood, we explore how space based solar power can contribute to climate mitigation goals. We propose a phased energy RDD&C program to establish US leadership in SBSP

Since COVID first hit, leading public health people have said we need to treat this as a worldwide problem because of the possibility of variants and mutations. We should have figured out to vaccinate everyone on Earth within six months of widespread vaccine approval

With the Build Back Better Act hanging in the balance, it's worth looking at the stakes for the US renewables industry. Extending the tax credits would roughly double the new solar capacity added in the US by 2030, we project. In Energy Pulse last week:

Its worth reading that study in depth because some of the major perceived barriers, like variable funding and a lack of private investors, have disappeared in the last 18 months with ARDP and the increasing amount of VC in the space

Utilities are starting to seriously evaluate ARs in their investment plans. Other than the three demo projects, we could see the first purely commercial orders within a few years

Its amazing how quickly the advanced reactor space has changed. This 2018 PNAS study found it unlikely advanced reactors would be commercialized by 2050. We are on track for broad microreactor commercialization and 3 major demo projects by the late 2020s

So uh... did Jimmy Carter save Ottawa from a nuclear meltdown? I summarize the 1952 accident at the NRX reactor in Canada, and how the former US President was involved:

A lot of decarbonization modeling uses average or single-year weather and temperatures to evaluate end-use energy use and therefore grid requirements. That means we aren't testing how future energy systems are supposed to perform under very hot or very cold conditions.

Getting advanced reactors to market as quickly as possible to fight climate change requires efficient licensing processes. My latest report with examines how we can do that by minimizing review durations for advanced reactor licensing

The ongoing natural gas crisis in Europe is spilling over from this winter (2021-22) into the next one, with traders increasingly betting on high prices for winter 2022-23. As a result, the price spread Mar 2023 vs Apr 2023 has exploded over the last few days (chart)
