And you have nailed the next step in the argument! "Radical islamists just hate freedom and want to destroy us. Asking whether the rise of a rancid ideology is in any way connected to underlying structural causes can't possibly help and guts our resolve to shut down the threat."

Well, that's not entirely crazy honestly. I mean you have this liberal faith that everything is just a matter of finding a rational administrative solution. That there's a structural cause we can tinker with. Some people are just existential enemies.

I wouldn't foreclose asking the questions, but also don't assume you are gonna get the answer you want.

The problem is already starting, "oh, maybe theres some way to deal with their grievances, maybe we can find an administrative solution, more sex workers, robots, etc." Well maybe they are belligerent misogynists and can't accept our society?

I find it amusing that this entire threat is premised on the assumption that Ross is proposing to "solve the incel problem by providing them with sex robots" when that isn't his point at all. As if people have lost the ability to read without jumping to an occasion for outrage.

5) & of course the implicit theme is Douthat's standard: the *real* cause of incel rage is the loss of "traditionalism," & the only *true* solution is a return to that mythic traditional order, & rejection of modernity. He's basically an ostensibly more civil Jordan Peterson
