I try to put that in my past and atone by being better now but I can’t help but mull on the conditions that forged that kind of person. I was definitely told by other kids at the time that I was weak as a person for not being more masculine.

But when I tried to understand masculinity, I was shown little else but courting girls. If I wanted to be strong and be male, I had to have girls on each arm. I had to know about sex first and that had to be accomplished at all costs. That was what I was taught.

Its obviously bullshit. Its awful too. It makes me feel gross to think that I, a child, would’ve believed that. I think its ok to not forgive myself for it either. Especially because I can’t really know how that impacted the other kids I interacted with.

And I can’t change that either. May be permanent damage, and its all because I was a kid who was told that I had to do this and be that in order to find acceptance, and I believed it.

That was me from ages 3-18. I’m 31 now. Imagine kids today who are still being taught to be that way. Imagine even worse the grown ass adults my age who never unlearned those morals and how truly dangerous they are.

Boys raised with shitty morals need to unlearn this shit and frankly they’re not incentivized to. They’ve found new places to reinforce those ideas. I didn’t have that. I changed because every space I entered further rejected me until I learned to be better.

Idk where this is going. It’s just what floats through my mind when I read about another fucking dude who murders people because he can’t get laid. It sounds SO FUCKING FOREIGN AND INSANE but I don’t need to reach too far to actually understand it and that’s _terrifying_.

Final thought: Men don’t deserve pity here. Its shitty men who make shitter men. Women have to learn to defend themselves against it and it’s not right. Its a burden that’s forced on them by a culture that allows “incels” to make headline news.

We owe kids better than a world where their validity is rooted in how well they live up to some meta construct built out of entrenched power structures.
