Do you imagine stories of giants might originate from cannibals? Taller would likely have eaten lineages of shorter men, a terrible sight & grim prospect to see a towering being on the horizon. Children later spooked by the stories might be unwittingly descendents of the former.

Continuity is built on a sort of spirituality, which is to say the sense is not false, insofar continuity doesn't include physical We feel connected to forebearers no matter how mutated we become, ways we no longer resemble them, their lives are a necessary prerequisite to ours.
