It’s important to SWPL’s image of themselves that they be sophisticated. It’s not enough that a movie just be entertaining, which is pretty sad.

They’re seemingly not smart enough to read genuinely sophisticated material, so they stick with pop culture and pretend it’s classier than it is.

I think when you start from the democratization of art and effectively deconstruct the position of all higher forms of art, all you are left with is a pastiche of sophistication and elevating pop culture trash, we do live in an age of inversion after all
