Irks me that Heidegger is still classified as an Existentialist due to purposeful misreadings, like the Leftist Nietzschean nonsense.
It's what bloom called the "Nietzschfication of the left or vice versa"basically with him came the package deal of art and culture critique.

Is the book worth it? IIRC Gottfried's review was pretty negative — made Bloom sound totally paranoid about German philosophers.

Yeah it has its downsides to it, for instances his treatment of Nietzsche, you gotta remember bloom is the main disciple of Strauss

So that comes with a lot of baggage when it comes to the treatment of 19th-20th cent German philosophers.

But the book is spot on in terms of how he predicted what would and is happening to modern north amerikwan academia.
