I wish that "progressive" Christians would just admit that they are not Christian and openly disavow the faith. Then there would be less confusion. And perhaps if the apostates confronted their own apostasy, then there would be a chance at repentance and redemption.

I don't know any who forget this part. I know many who because of hermenutics and translation and study and all of those things understand sin different than conservatives. My favourite part of that story is that grace and love proceed that statement. Shows us a good model

this is also a great example of what I was saying earlier. The first step and focus tends to be about holiness. Its not the first thing he said in the story, nor even the most radical (forgiveness with no repentance or even contrition spoken just grace and love)
