If you ever feel like expanding on this, the comparison to more traditional Japanese art and aesthetics would be an actually-interesting criticism of anime. It’s one I could see myself writing, even, if I knew more about aesthetics in general.

The “hyper-capitalist” critique is also largely true and relevant, but I don’t think it’s a secret that most anime are, essentially, pandering to otaku to get them to buy merchandise. Like Transformers but for an older audience.
