Are we now pretending "making light of pedophilia" is the comedic line that cannot be crossed?

It's not pretend. It's an absolute taboo, due to asymmetrical risk. Comedy about breaking taboos, but this isn't comedy here. It's a bugmen conspiracy. Most conspiracies aren't real, but pedos in Hollywood probably is.

Lots of edgy comics make pedophile jokes. Anthony Jeselnik has several. Gunn openly repented of his "sins." It's not some unforgivable territory to _put into an idea_. Get ahold of yourself.

Skin in the game also means accepting the consequences. In the old days, court jesters fall out of favor and get executed all the time. Nothing wrong with making a joke about drawing and quartering a comedian either, right?
-
The punishment is disproportional to the effect of the joke. One imagines the joke entering the mind of the weak and twisting it. But the weak one is never us.
-
It looks more like an admission of guilt than a joke to me. Especially when you consider Epstein, Polanski, Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, etc.

Too damaging to decide in the kangaroo court of public opinion.

Perhaps, but also look at the tweet quoted in the OP. It's the whole bugman ethos.https://twitter.com/westland_will/status/1020434546129432576?s=19 …
