I think to put it brief, they are like Heidegger, getting at "the ground floor" as one prof explained to me, the being of beings or the absolute ground of being as an "arche" or common point, the way the early pre-socratics were getting at that absolute ground element of X.

Of course in PoMo ontology can mean a variety of things including the regime of signs or the language nexus web of constant-reference to other things that lack the arche point of an ontological ground (if you are Derrida but even he had a notion of ontology).
