Is there a way we can make a distinction Anglo Liberal tradition and the modern globohomogayplex? @giantgio @Logo_Daedalus @_Discouraged @Ozzy1Big @MatthewTheStoat @Mast_Brew @CitadelMark @FreeNortherner @Cactus_Sauce @SydneyTrads @EternalMercian

The best distinction I make make is before and after Nietzsche unmasked liberalism and demolished all unprincipled exceptions by being the most honest liberal in history. After that, all pretense was lost and the inherent tendencies that had been restrained kicked into overdrive.

Do you think things that have been demolished (religious life, strong sense of civic duty, sense of natl. identity/belonging, etc) that were restricting liberalism’s destructive tendencies can be resurrected at this point? Also on related note how do you feel abt de Tocqueville?

1. Not under the current system. The unprincipled exceptions were made out of ignorance, and we can't go back. Alasdair MacIntyre compared Nietzsche to King Kamehameha II, who formally abolished the tradition of taboos that had been de facto ignored for centuries, for this reason

Tocqueville is great. He absolutely hit the nail on the head for many things. My favorite was where he explained how the USA became a much more litigious country than England and France: combining their worst features: a formal constitution and legislation via judicial precedent.

On the whole, the post-Westphalian liberal nation state is structurally hostile to faith, and this is by design. William Cavanaugh's "The Myth of Religious Violence" covers how that works. You'd need to amend the body politic to something like the Estado Novo or post-Meiji Japan

He also hinted at how in the future, mass egalitarianism and the sameness bred in America would be its source of social and cultural destruction.
