at my school, a ~woke~ white guy once snapped at a black woman, telling her that she should be more upset about AAVE appropriation

once, after i’d had a blubbering breakdown over a classmate calling me a chink, a white-privileged ‘friend’ kept egging me on to be angrier

“you should be more mad!” “if i were you…” “he deserves your anger!” but do /i/ deserve it?

i think a lot of white folks don’t realize that racial anger is a manifestation of anxiety. and anxiety is EX. HAUS. TING.

and sometimes…white liberal anger is completely misplaced to begin with, and the “issue” is actually nonexistent!!!

which is SUPER embarrassing! and unavoidable! just listen to your brown friends! (and if you don’t have any—maybe think about why that is??)

before you demand anger for issues that do not impact you, before you direct that anger toward anyone: slow down and do some reflection.

hey white people, it’s ok to take a back seat sometimes. brown people can tell when anger is performative. we’re not stupid.
