Ok so for starters, absolutely fuck the police. The only “violence” protesters were committing while I was there was a water bottle here and there and someone set off fireworks (small ones) in the crowd. Immediately following this, though I was VERY far away-

a tear gas cannister landed at my feet and I ran, though definitely not fast enough. (I have all of this on video, but there are a lot of faces so I probably won’t be posting them)

Tear gas HURTS like no joke. I don’t think I got it HALF as bad as some people, but it feels like you’re breathing in fire and you have acid in your eyes. And the worst part is once you can breathe and your eyes have stopped burning, your skin burns and burns and burns

Things were peaceful for hours and escalated VERY quickly and seemingly out of nowhere. There were. A LOT of white/nbpoc people there, and many many people looking like they were prepared for violence before any had started. I’m not saying this is an indication of anything-

Just before I left, things were getting better. The cops were leaving, we got one cop to take a knee. It was great, then as the police were driving away, someone threw a firework at them and they tear gassed THE ENTIRE STREET

The whole thing. I left after this because my face was still burning and my throat was still burning and I could not handle being gassed a second time.pic.twitter.com/DDdseQ5Zvc
