Over the next days and weeks there will be many new protesters in the streets. Welcome them kindly with information and the supplies they need!

tip for the guys who think Roe's demise won't affect them: child support payments usually start at a quarter of your annual income

Whatever anyone's views are on abortion, it should truly concern us all that a partisan Supreme Court can overturn a law that ~70% of Americans favor. It's not a democracy with 30% rule.

Alito's draft declares that, inter alia, the right to marry a person of a different race, the right to contraception, and the right not to be forcibly sterilized, all lack "any claim to being deeply rooted in history" – which is the same reason he overrules the right to abortion.

Please do NOT order Plan B tonight unless you have an actual plan to distribute it in your community, or we'll have a million doses expiring in medicine cabinets while folks who need it can't get it, because it's sold out.

  11. Daily practice in the Fight: in the mirror, ask “if you knew for a fact you were going to lose, would you quit?” If yes, maybe this isn’t for you, or you need space to rest. If no, then the possibility of losing doesn’t change very much for you, does it?

That draft memo obtained by Politico does NOT mean the Supreme Court has struck down Roe v. Wade. It means the court INTENDS to strike it down when the decision comes down in a couple months. We now need MASSIVE protests to pressure the court not to go through with this travesty.

The ripple effects will be massive. Job security, housing, education, domestic violence, immigration, the carceral system, the entire spectrum of reproductive health. Reproductive autonomy is the pillar upon which so many rest their entire lives.

    * it would be absolutely wild to have a SCOTUS opinion leaked before publication, just wow * would not be a surprising result * alito will never be happy * this has nothing to do with this ruling, just a personal observation

As I log off, I will remind you all that the order of operations for conservative SCOTUS was important. They had to take away voting rights by eviscerating the Voting Rights Act BEFORE they could take away abortion. They're counting on voter suppression to blunt the backlash.

Right now the most important thing is that women in the U.S. are being declared second-class citizens. Women's ability to compete in the marketplace for jobs: forget about it. We who lived through pro-Roe know how fully this affects all women.

Within my living memory women in Egypt and Afghanistan could wear mini skirts and get graduate degrees. Don't let anyone tell you it can't happen here or there.
