Most of my professional experience was dealing with e-commerce systems. High volume, high throughput, dealing with thousands of orders every second on peak hours. Most of them worked exactly the way it’s described in the article. Otherwise they wouldn’t scale. 🤷‍♂️

tl;dr Abstraction (interfaces, frameworks, etc) is just a tool. Its helpful when its used in the right place. Even then, it can cause or mask failures so be prepared to troubleshoot its inner workings.

Failure doesn’t respect abstraction.

The key mechanism to tackle ever increasing complexity is abstraction, such as frameworks or interfaces. Some things, however, can’t be abstracted away.

tl;dr Great architects look from a higher level and rarely obsess with specific tools. Most platforms and tools are matured enough that the choice of tool is unlikely to be the biggest predictor of your project’s success or failure.

I am getting on my soap box because I see more projects and vendors contrasting events against messages, which imho makes little sense.

Events are messages. Commands are also messages. They're distinct from events in that they represent intent vs events relay facts. A message is just a piece of data and implies a communication style, but no semantics.
