You know you're booking with corp travel when it suggests flying from HKG to SEA via DXB 🤦

Most of my professional experience was dealing with e-commerce systems. High volume, high throughput, dealing with thousands of orders every second on peak hours. Most of them worked exactly the way it’s described in the article. Otherwise they wouldn’t scale. 🤷‍♂️

Reading some docs... when the headline begins with "properly", I know there's trouble ahead. Basically it means, "this thing has major quirks and if you don't read this, you'll be forever (improperly) doomed"

Note to systems architects: "mesh" and "mess" are only one letter apart

remember that you pay for development effort not in actual cost but in opportunity cost, i.e. the value that the dev could have created in the 1 hour. In a well-functioning software delivery organization that value should be a high multiple of the loaded salary cost -

No good architecture without The Matrix!

'You didn't come to make the choice, you've already made it. You're here to try to understand why you made it. " . @ghohpe analogy from The Matrix comparing it with the importance of Architecture Decision Records during an architecture review is genius.

This is a terrific piece and a fun read -- an extremely in-depth dissertation on coupling in distributed systems, the costs of decoupling, tradeoffs in architecture, serverless, and more (tis a long and winding road). architectelevator.com/cloud/cloud-de by

4) I'm a very happy architect. And I code. But when I code I tend to see different things. Here's what I thought when looking at 5 lines of code: architectelevator.com/cloud/cloud-de

Uh-oh: "you can make a trivial configuration choice of whether to place the Adder component together with the main() function or to place it separately." So I write a method that calls Adder in a loop 10000 times and... oops!

Google's Service Weaver claims that it can hide the difference between RPC and local method calls. Just like CORBA claimed in 1991. Is it different this time? The docs say barely a word about handing failures, such as RPCs timing out serviceweaver.dev

I am getting on my soap box because I see more projects and vendors contrasting events against messages, which imho makes little sense.
