Obviously, Dems think memo is dumb & irrelevant, & GOP think it's explosive. Regardless, if these 2 claims in the Nunes memo are true - and it's a big "if" - how is it not significant: 1) DOJ concealed function/origin of Steele dossier; 2) McCabe said no FISA warrant w/o dossier?

Wouldn't the three renewals suggest something was found? Is open source information not valid for a warrant application? I think the central premise that the dossier should've been dis-positive of a warrant has problems.
-
No, the renewals suggest that FBI officials wanted to continue the warrant. It doesn't at all demonstrate that they had a valid basis or were candid with the FISA court when asking.

I read the whole memo... It isn’t long. I see absolutely nothing in it which discloses sensitive intelligence methods and sources. Or even insensitive ones.
-
Our problem is that we may not think anything secret or sensitive on the surface. Its the potential to triangulate based on information another person has. Ex. Someone went to a grocery store. A foreign agency may see "Oh, Agent Z went to grocery store as well at same time.:

But here's my thing, Glenn. There's a FISA judge who reviewed and approved this surveillance. So regardless of what motivated the request, the GOP here seems to be joining the ACLU in (rightly) arguing that FISA judges are just a rubber-stamp.
-
Presumably the purpose of a FISA judge--the existence of which the GOP created and has consistently supported--is to review applications and reject those without merit. So... The GOP is now saying we can't trust the FISA court, right?

Both of those statements can be true. The investigation could have persisted without a surveillance warrant being sought in the absence of the dossier (either at that point in time or ever).

If the investigation would persist even without the dossier, then why use it at all? Seems like it was so tainted that you would risk going to jail over something Schiff says was not needed. Who would do that if they didn't need it?
