The magnum opus of , a true neuroscience renaissance man: neurobiologist, microscopist, software engineer, & hardware engineer. It is an honour to see the dream experiments for which we built all-optical come to reality!

Congratulations to Sylvia Schroeder, , , , and colleagues. recordings and 2p imaging of retinal axons reveal that the retina does not "just" process photons: its output depends on behavior!

    1. My 1st paper out on ! Our brain exploits differences between left and right eye images to generate a vivid 3D sense of depth, as in 3D movies. W/ & T.Bonhoeffer we study how such disparity signals are processed in mouse visual cortex

V1 neurons are influenced by the animal's position in the environment. Might V1's encoding of spatial positions be inherited from hippocampal regions? We explored this possibility in our last paper "Modulation of visual cortex by hippocampal signals" ()

Congratulations and Mika Diamanti. Coding of spatial position in V1 reflects idiothetic cues and hippocampal theta. And we (literally) made the cover of bioRxiv!!

  16. Latest from my PhD work: we establish the functional organization of the excitatory and inhibitory presynaptic ensembles of L2/3 neurons in V1 and show how it predicts orientation selectivity and reveals a new cortical circuit for direction selectivity.

We recognise researchers are increasingly mobile and that these are very uncertain times for many of our grantholders. We have changed our policy. Researchers can now transfer Wellcome grants outside the UK, find out more:
